The South Australian government has named ANZ its sole banking partner, in a move that will see the bank provide a raft of financial services to the state.
Under the terms of the arrangement, ANZ will provide transaction banking and card services to all South Australia government agencies over a five-year term with the option to extend for another five-year period. Merchant services will be provided by ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions.
The arrangement will bring best-in-class banking solutions to South Australia, according to ANZ Group Executive Institutional, Mark Whelan.
“We’re very pleased to be partnering with the South Australian Government to provide reliable and innovative banking services to the people and businesses of SA,” he said.
It is the first time in two decades the South Australian government has appointed a sole transaction-banking provider.
ANZ Managing Director Transaction Banking, Lisa Vasic, said the bank would focus on bringing innovative solutions to the partnership.
“We’re looking forward to delivering our digital and technology capabilities to support the government’s transformation agenda,” she said.
ANZ Worldline is a joint venture between the bank and payments provider Worldline, aimed at providing business with online and point-of-sale payments services.
The SA partnership comes after ANZ was named the leading bank for customers in Australia by the Peter Lee Associates Large Corporate and Institutional Relationship Banking Survey in June. It was the seventh-consecutive time ANZ has secured the nod, highlighting its ongoing strength in relationship banking.
In 2018, ANZ was appointed one of two providers of core-banking services for the New South Wales government and sole innovation partner.
